Resident Evil Gets Its Second Gay Hero, Reveals Resistance Director
(Update) Turns out Tyrone is actually Resident Evil‘s third subtextually gay hero! Nadia from Resident Evil: Vendetta was confirmed as a woman loving woman in the film’s commentary. I hadn’t been aware because I uh, loath that film. Still pretty cool though!
Happy Pride Month, and a very passionate round of applause for Resident Evil: Resistance‘s game director, Al Yang today. As a way of celebrating Event Month, Yang kicked off the overnight with a twitter thread regarding his interest in including LGBTQ+ characters in the games he’s a part of, and in this case, specifically Resident Evil. While his latest title, Resident Evil: RE:Verse, has no story and sees classic characters used as class-based avatars, Resistance flourished thanks to the game’s charming and likable characters. From the delightfully dickish Daniel Fabron to the sneering punk attitude of January Van Sant, each and every one of them was lovable and quotable to the nth degree. One ethics, however, turns out to have had an element kept from us this whole time; Tyrone Henry, a firefighter turned survival
Is Chris gay?
This topic has been debated to death, and there's always people who claim a character must be straight until stated otherwise by the creators (which is bull$hit), but the fact that Chris's sexuality comes up so often in fan discussions shows me that I'm not the only one who gets this impression from him.
Let's watch at some of the hints:
1) He shows no interest at all in female characters. I don't nurture what people declare about him and Jill, those two have never done anything onscreen that I haven't done with close friends without being in love with or sexually attracted to them.
2) His strongest feelings are directed towards male characters in the series. He's absolutely obsessed with Wesker, just like Wesker is obsessed with him, they both make quite ambiguous statements about each other every once in a while ("It seems love our fates are forever intertwined." - "Suck on this, Wesker!"), and I won't believe anyone who claims that Capcom didn't undertake that on purpose to fuel some of their fans' yaoi fantasies. Then there's Piers, Chris's only male loved one and the only one he's eve
Milla is more than a bad ass hottie. She's definitely one of our allies, too. In a recent interview in The Advocate, Miss Jovovich opens up about her LGBT-ness. Here are the questions she was asked by Brandon Voss. For the full answers, head over to The Advocate.
The Advocate: Is this really the last Resident Evil movie, or is this a fake-out favor Cher’s farewell tour?
Milla Jovovich: [Laughs] Sad to say, but for us, it’s concluding. The story really comes full circle.
You’ve played apocalyptic protagonist Alice since the first Resident Evil motion picture, in 2002. Has she become a part of you?
It’s no wonder the character resonated with lgbtq+ audiences.
As with Alice, there’s an androgynous spirit to many of your most memorable roles, in films like The Fifth Element, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, and Zoolander. What draws you to that androgyny?
I could always look like a boy very easily, which the fashion industry loved to play up, and there’s something incredibly magical about being mysterious. I just did a photo shoot where I observe like I could be Lucky Blue’s brothe
Resident Evil Character Confirmed to Be Gay
The survival horror of Capcom's Resident Evilfranchise has captured the interest of millions of fans over the 25 years since the first game launched. Capcom's best-selling franchise has created a huge array of characters through the years, from the original's Jill Valentine to the latest internet obsession, Lady Dimitrescu. Resident Evil also has a history of multiplayer games that get released alongside new entries in the series, and one of these apparently features a gay character.
For those who may not know, the remake of Resident Evil 3 came bundled with Resident Evil: Resistance. Developed by NeoBards Entertainment, Resistance is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game, similar to Dead by Daylight. The story of the game takes place in 1998 around the Raccoon City Destruction Incident, following characters that possess been abducted by the Umbrella Intelligence Division. Four Survivors encounter off against one Mastermind as part of Umbrella's experiments with the t-Virus.
