Disney slammed over first ever gay parents storyline
The Disney Channel has come under fire for featuring a lesbian couple for the first time in a family show on Sunday.
During an episode of ‘Good Luck Charlie’ a child and her two mothers enter at the main character Charlie’s home to play.
The One Million Moms organisation – which campaigns against the exploitation of children by the amusement media – launched a campaign last year to urge Disney to release the storyline when it was announced in June.

But officials did not respond, and before the episode was aired the team asked its members to contact one of the programme’s sponsors to urge them to withdraw funding if the show was air.
On its website, One Million Moms warned that by introducing LGBT content, the Disney Channel risked opening the doors for all other programmes.
“Disney has decided to be politically accurate instead of providing family-friendly programming. Disney should stick to entertaining, not pushing an agenda”, the group said.

After it was announced over the summer that the family-friendly show Good Luck Charlie will feature a character with two lesbian moms on an upcoming episode, the the groundbreaking episode aired on Sunday, Jan. 26—the same night as the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
In the storyline, parents Amy and Bob Duncan (played by Leigh-Allyn Baker and Eric Allan Kramer) set up a playdate for their preschooler Charlie (Mia Talerico) with one of her new pals, who happens to have two mothers (TV Guide was first to report the news in June).
The penultimate episode of the show's fourth and final season also reportedly centered on Bridget Mendler's character Teddy and her leading friend Ivy as Ivy prepared to head to college.
While there are certainly a number of both gay and lesbian couples featured on TV today, the kiddie channel took extra protect before deciding to introduce the very first same sex couple on the network.

Because Disney Channel has a huge role in influencing American kids’ childhood years, it is incredibly important and beneficial to display children that more than one type of family exists.
Of course, the emergence of these characters has led to a variety of responses, both positive and negative. Such a huge emphasis, supportive or not, on a same-sex attracted couple’s presence in a kids television show can hold a negative impact.
