Shinji gay
| Our hero, Shinji Ikari |
No, the really weird ideas that I want to discuss about today are the notions that the fandom has adopted that soar in the confront of just about everything the communicate attempts to settle thematically. One of the more evident examples of this comes from the heavy sexualization of the two teenage female pilots that the f
Kaworu is (not) gay
Kaworu is queer and not gay. That's what's wonderful about him. You can interpret him however the hell you want, I'm a hardcore kawoshin shipper myself, but at the same time this is Evangelion we're talking about. Shinji and Kaworu's relationship is questionable, but so are ALL of his other relationships. Because that's what Evangelion is about. The unstable, painful, emotional things that are "human relationships".
Shinji doesn't possess awkward, blushing, romantically questionable moments just with Kaworu, but the rest of the cast as well. The entirety is a breakdown of human psychology, and the romantic nature is important as well, since human bonds are not clearly "defined". They are, as we can see from Shinji, insecure, but also messy, unclear, and have no defined boundaries of "this" or "that". They're ambiguous. That's where Shinji's insecurity and issue lies in the first place.
All of his relationships with all the female cast is muddled in more ways than one, his friendships are important and we hold many platonic moments (smile Rei), but Evangelion
I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time in late 2016. All I really knew of the reveal was there were cool mecha, and an opening that absolutely slaps. What I ended up finding in Evangelion was an incredibly contemplative show, and one that was surprisingly queer. Evangelion is also a rather divisive demonstrate , and it contains narrative beats that I wish didn’t exist, but I can’t deny the impact it had on coming to understand myself as a person.
But there were changes in the 2019 version of the show, which received a completely recent sub and dub, that present a, to some degree, a different version of events, – particularly episode 24 of the show.
That episode, The Terminal Messenger, to set it bluntly, is very gay. Throughout the show, protagonist Shinji struggles to join with most other people he meets. He has a terrible father, he didn’t really understand his mother, and every woman he gets close to he has a somewhat complicated connection with. And then in episode 24, along comes Kaworu Nagisa.
Romantic is not a word I would use to describe most of Evangelion, but it is the most apt one for this particular episode. Typically in

Mod Note: these are older submissions I missed back when I was still learning the ropes. In an ideal scenario, I think I’d include blended the three submissions into something a bit more cohesive. However, I think this might operate as an occasional format.
From lindapenvellyn:
Shinji has a clear (and disturbing at times) sexual attraction to Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Soryu, and Misato Katsuragi. But near the terminate of the original series, Shinji meets Kaworu Nagisa, who Shinji is obviously attracted to. After the death of Kaworu, Shinji even says, “He loved me… I loved him.” Fandom interpretation usually leans toward completely straight or completely gay, but it’s pretty clear that Shinji is bi or pan.
From alexsnotsosecretworld:
Through the series, Shinji is shown to be clearly aroused by the two other (female) EVA pilots, Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley. In a very disturbing scene, Asuka is unconscious at the hospital after a brutal EVA clash, and Shinji goes there to pay her a visit and… well… jerk off while watching her sleep.
And then comes Kaworu Nagisa.
Kaworu is the recent EVA pilot that arrive
