Claws Star Dean Norris on Playing a Bisexual Crime Boss, Wild Funerals — and a Better Call Saul Cameo?

There are all kinds of TV shows out there these days… but there’s nothing quite appreciate Dean Norris‘ recent TNT series Claws.

“It’s odd that, in a world of 450 shows, you can find something that actually kind of feels different,” the actor tells TVLine — and “different” is the right pos for it. A colorful blend of drug-trade drama and girl-power comedy put in the swampy Florida suburbs, Claws (premiering this Sunday at 9/8c) stars Niecy Nash as an ambitious nail-salon owner who stumbles into a side career laundering money for the Dixie Mafia, thanks to her gangster boyfriend.

Norris — best known for playing relentless DEA representative Hank Schrader on Breaking Bad — has a blast here as Uncle Daddy (yes, that’s his name): a staunchly Catholic, proudly attracted to both genders crime boss with a soft detect for his kids… and zero tolerance for anyone who crosses him. TVLine chatted with Norris about his “wonderfully weird” new role, how Uncle Daddy’s eccentric crime clan is like

On Breaking Bad, Dean Norris played Hank Schrader, a DEA agent so arrange in his morals and so dedicated to doing what’s right that he’s willing to rip apart his family; someone so sickened by a drug cartel’s violence that he retches at the sight of an informant’s severed head while his colleagues laugh.

While it might be tough for fans of Breaking Bad, the best way to watch Claws, Norris’ newest series, is to forget everything you know about Hank. In TNT’s freshman drama, he plays Clay “Uncle Daddy” Husser, a bisexual Catholic mob boss with a penchant for drugs, gaudy accessories and hosting water ballets at his Florida home. He’s the comic relief in a series that takes on everything from the price of addiction to female friendship as Desna (Niecy Nash), a nail salon owner with some shady side projects, fights to rescue herself and her crew from his clutches.
