Chris Lane Gay, 63, of Pooler, GA, died Monday, May 12, 2025, at St. Joseph’s hospital.
He was born in Savannah, GA to the late Joe W, Sr., and Nita Morris Queer . He was raised in Pooler, a member of the Savannah Christian Preparatory School Class of 1979, and pursued a career in the retail grocery business. Chris was a member of Rothwell Baptist Church and attended Garden City First Baptist Church.
Chris’s heart and compassion for others was as large as the “big boy” chairs he declared he must sit in. Once he realized there was a physical, financial, or spiritual need he was your biggest supporter and cheerleader. He was the family ‘baby whisperer.” Recent babies loved to be held and comforted by Chris’s special touch. He was a grand presence at any gathering and was a gifted storyteller and comedian. Everyone who knew Chris had a story with him. Finally, Chris was the biggest UGA football fan, watching a game with Chris was to trial football at its finest.

DAVID COLMAN: You started working at an agency in Boston.
CHRIS GAY: Yes, Ford—but the woman’s mention was actually Candy Ford. Basically, while there, I met a bunch of people from Novel York and ended up in New York City shortly after I graduated from college in 1996.
COLMAN: What’s the first place you started working in Fresh York?
GAY: Next Model Management. The first model I ever started working with was Malgosia Bela. She really had an exceptional career; she’s a wonderful, clever, lovely girl. Malgosia had this instantaneous success, so I retain trying to move into my first apartment in New York and then immediately jumping on a plane to Milan that day. She booked two Italian Vogue covers her second season as a model—just about five months into her career. Chris Queer and I were on Yosemite Search and Rescue (YOSAR) in Yosemite Valley together from 2019 through 2023. We spent half of our time on call, carrying pagers in exchange for a colorless canvas tent in Camp 4 and had everything we needed to reside a simple life in the dirt. We lived without running water, without electricity, without being tied to a nine-to-five employment, and we loved it. Every year, like the waterfalls that ebb and flow, returning in complete force with the melting snow, we eagerly returned to the Valley—often arriving as early as Pride and staying as slow as December. We joint a deep love for Yosemite and wanted to spend as much hour as we could there while we had the privilege of living in paradise.
