Lil Nas X: Is the rapper the defining star of his generation?

He's only been making music for three years, but Lil Nas X has upended hip-hop with his LGBT-positive lyrics while also pioneering new ways of promoting his harmony online.

Following the release of his long-awaited debut album Montero, here's how he became one of his generation's most compelling pop stars.

In 2019, Lil Nas X took two of music's most hyper-masculine genres, rap and nation, mashed them together, created a global hit single - then came out on the last day of Identity month.

Subversive and brilliant as it was, the decision to reveal his sexuality was made on the spur of the moment.

It all happened on the main stage at the Glastonbury Festival, where he was making a surprise appearance during Miley Cyrus's set.

Singer Khalid has reach out as homosexual, saying he made the decision to publicly reveal his sexuality after organism outed.

The seven-time Grammy nominee, 26, shared a series of posts on X Friday darkness, in which the hitmaker said he was neither “ashamed” of being same-sex attracted or “hiding anything” while noting that his sexuality is “nobodies [sic] business.”

In his first post, Khalid common a rainbow flag emoji along with three exclamation marks, adding, “there yall go. next topic please lol.”

One person responded to his post, writing “Wait hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!” That prompted Khalid to quote the reply and combine, “I am! And that’s okay.”

The hitmaker then revealed that he was outed.

“I got outted [sic] and the planet still continues to turn. Let’s acquire this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In existence it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me,” he wrote along with a black heart emoji and signing the post, “love yall.”

Throughout 2023, pop singer-songwriter Lauv has been exploring his sexuality publicly. It all started in June, when the “I Like Me Better” singer released a TikTok in which he appeared to come out as not straight. It's been a big year for Lil Nas X. From the release of the hugely successful single "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)" and its accompanying music video (you perceive, the one where Lil Nas pole dances to hell and gives the devil a lap dance), to the release of his long awaited debut album "Montero" last month. In both this song and the album as a whole, Lil Nas unapologetically explores his sexuality. Within hip-hop and popular music in general this is a landmark moment in LGBTQ+ representation.

However, it would be wrong to reflect on Lil Nas to be the first openly gay rapper. There are many other LGBTQ+ rappers who came before him, many of whom are still prominent within the rap scene.

Since coming out in 2019 following the unprecedented success of his song "Old Town Road", Nas has grow one of the biggest lgbtq+ voices both in rap and in popular music in general. "Old Town Road" is one of the best-selling singles of all time and its triumph flung Lil Nas from a relative unknown to a fully fledged international superstar. Whilst some thought Lil Nas woul
