The City eventually made Main Beach a public park, also famous as the ‘Window to the Sea.’ The gay culture eventually migrated to the 1400 block of South Coast Highway, which was home to The Coast Inn, Boom Boom Room and a gay dinner house. This became the hub and heart of homosexual culture for the next several decades.

Will Rogers State Beach – Los Angeles
Located just north of Santa Monica, Will Rogers Beach (aka “Ginger Rogers Beach”) is LA’s most popular gay beach. The gay section is around Lifeguard Tower 18 - look for the rainbow flags and speedos.
The beach see became a widespread destination for lgbtq+ men in the 1940s and was soon dubbed "Ginger Rogers Beach" in honor of the silver screen actress (she who danced backwards and in high heels), who was known for her campy performances that drag queens began emulating in the 1930s and 1940s.
In recognition of its historical significance, Los Angeles County painted lifeguard towers 17 and 18 in the colors of the Progress Pride Flag in June 2023 and installed signs stressing the area's cultural importance to the LGBTQ+ community. Jacob Alexander’s Guide to the Best SoCal Gay Beaches
This past summer, while I was taking time to travel and visit friends all across the territory, I ended up in San Diego for Identity festival weekend. While I was there, I saw San Diego’s incredible Pride Pride for the first period ever, had loads of fun partying in the San Diego Zoo after time at night, was qualified to see Kesha carry out at Balboa Park, and most importantly I was swept up into an intense and passionate intimacy with a boy which led to me transforming my plans and calling SoCal home for a few months. Our tryst ended as heavily and passionately as it began, and I shortly made my way to Key West to start my new adventures here.
Though my time with this boy reaffirmed my faith that every moment can be beautiful, and you should never stop letting your breath be taken away by the society around you. We went on many adventures in the short time we were together, and I’ll never forget the moments that we shared.
